Brad Johnson carded a 96, followed by Lane Hillukka’s 98 as the United North Central Warriors boys golf team finished eighth with 498 points at the Mid-Minn Conference meet at the Whitefish Golf Club on Thursday.

Zach Israelson of Staples-Motley shot 75 for medalist honors in leading the Cardinals to a 28-stroke victory with 401 points.

Wadena-Deer Creek tallied 429 points for a distant runner-up finish as Michael Wing shot 76 for the Wolverines.

Bailey Mueller shot a 86 to lead Park Rapids to sixth.

It was a tooth and nail catfight between Mid-State Conference rivals Park Rapids Area Panthers and the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines at the softball complex on Tuesday.

Ryan Nelson and Cody Redfield slugged Wadena-Deer Creek past Park Rapids with home runs in the 8-5 game one victory but the Panthers turned the tables to earn an 11-1 win in the nightcap of the Mid-State Conference doubleheader Tuesday.

The Wolverines erupted for four runs in the first frame of the opener as Redfield highlighted the inning with his three-run blast. Tyler Wohlwend closed out the scoring with his sacrifice fly to center that plated Colter Pettit.

Lindsey White struck out eight and drove in a run but Park Rapids scored three runs in the third to hand the Lady Braves the 3-1 defeat in non-conference action Thursday.

White knocked in Katie Miller with a line drive to center field in the first inning to give Menahga the early 1-0 lead.

Kayla Krause shot a team low 91 for medalist honors as the Wadena-Deer Creek girls golf team finished fourth in the Pelican Rapids Invitational at Wildflower on Tuesday.

The Lady Wolverines shot 420 to edge fifth-place finisher West Central Area by six strokes.

Ella Harrison carded 107, Breanna Speed had 110 and Amanda Kramer turned in 112 to round out the Lady Wolverines’ team score. Paige Hartman (115) and Kelsey Browne (121) provided the kicker scores.

Area high school varsity baseball teams traveled to the annual Park Rapids Wood Bat Tournament over the weekend and put together a string of outcomes on the diamond.

Staples-Motley went undefeated, knocking off the host Panthers 5-2 in the championship game. Sebeka went 2-1, and claimed fifth with the 11-1 victory over Menahga. The Trojans only loss was a close 2-1 defeat to Frazee in the opener.

Menahga dropped its first game 7-4 to Wheaton/Herman-Norcross, but bounced back to shutout Greenway 4-0.

Section 6, which consist of area Section 6A boys hockey teams, finished fifth in the Ted Brill Great 8 Hockey Festival held at the Wakota Arena in South St. Paul from March 26 through March 28.

The Section 6 team opened the tournament with a 5-1 loss to Section 2 on Friday night, but bounced back to defeat Section 1 in the consolation semifinals Saturday by a score of 4-2. Alexandria’s Thomas Williams had two points in the victory with a goal and assist.

The 26th Ted Brill Great 8 High School All-Star Hockey Festival is back at Wakota Civic Center in South St. Paul this Friday through Sunday, March 26th – 28th.

The Ted Brill Great 8 is a Minnesota Hockey tradition and features many of the finest high school senior hockey players in the state playing for their High School sections.
