Two of the three 2009 team champions return to defend their titles: the Simley Spartans in Class AA and the Apple Valley Eagles in Class AAA. Simley is looking for its third consecutive title, while Apple Valley is seeking its fifth straight title.

In the individual competition, 17 champions return for more gold medals—six in Class AAA, four in Class AA, and seven in Class A.

Emily Miron had 17 points and 10 rebounds and Kelsi Crawford added 13 points and nine rebounds as Wadena-Deer Creek tallied a season high in points during the 82-35 Mid-State Conference victory over Park Rapids Area on Friday.
 
“We finally started a game fast and getting a lead early,” Lady Wolverine coach Brian Silbernick said.

Park Rapids’ Leeza Tostenson tallied a hat trick and Heather Brostrom added two goals to help lead the Panthers past the Blue Devils 8-1 at the Wadena Community Center on Tuesday.
 
Blue Devils ninth grade forward Halley Maas lit the lamp at 10:05 of the third period to break up Panther netminder Jessica Gapinski’s shutout bid. She was assisted by Kylee Helling and Cassie Behl.
 
The Panthers also got goals from Brittany Floyd and McKenna Brand.
