The Menahga Lady Braves losing streak hit six with a pair of Park Region Conference losses to Parkers Prairie on Tuesday.

Down 1-0 early in the opener, the Lady Braves answered in the third inning with a pair of runs. Katie Miller led off the frame with a triple and Tara Cleveland followed with an RBI single. A passed ball advanced Cleveland over to third and the freshman scored on a RBI groundout from Megan Miller.

Parkers Prairie answered in the bottom half of the third to tie the game up. Shannon Bjerketvedt drove in a run with a liner into the left-center gap.

The Menahga Braves put together two solid games to earn the Park Region Conference doubleheader sweep over the host Parkers Prairie Panthers on Tuesday.

Derek Pihlaja declawed the Panthers on the hill and at the plate as the Braves took the opening game 3-1. The senior allowed just one earned run on four hits and struck out five for the complete game win. He drove in two runs with a pair of sacrifice flies in the early innings.

Menahga added the insurance run in the seventh. Levi Schwartz hit a double and scored on a Matt Skoog RBI single.

Parkers Prairie erased an 11-7 deficit with a big sixth inning outburst to claw past visiting Wadena-Deer Creek 15-11 in non-conference baseball action Friday.

The Panthers erupted for eight runs in the frame to offset the Wolverines’ five-run fifth for the victory.

Both teams combined to scatter 27 hits during the slugfest. Cody Redfield led the way for the Wolverines, going 3-for-4 with two doubles. The senior also scored two runs and drove in two RBI. Colter Pettit went 2-4 with a run and four RBI.

The Minnesota Girls Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Series will feature a four-team, doubleheader format this weekend at Macalester College. Friday games start at 6 p.m. The Saturday matinee begins at 1:30 p.m.

Area players playing this weekend include Sari Noga of Parkers Prairie and Jessica Finck of Bertha-Hewitt.

Sari Noga of Parkers Prairie High School is the Associated Press Player of the Year for Minnesota girls basketball.

The award was announced on Wednesday.

Noga finished her career as the third-leading girls scorer in state history. She helped lead the Panthers to their first state tournament where they took third place in the Class A tournament field.

Noga will play for the University of Minnesota next season. The senior also won the Gatorade Minnesota Girls basketball Player of the Year award.

Sari Noga put together one final, sterling performance to cap her stellar high school career by dropping a game-high 31 points to power the fifth-ranked Parkers Prairie Panthers to a third-place finish with the 72-62 victory over Northern Freeze on Saturday.

The senior was nine of 15 attempts from the floor, including four of eight from three-point range and also collected 10 rebounds to finish with a double-double.

Sarah Myhre dropped a game-high 24 points and Katrina Newman added 18 as the second-ranked Barnum Bombers advanced to the Class A title game with the 61-52 victory over Parkers Prairie in the state semifinals Friday afternoon.

The game featured eight lead changes and three ties before the Bombers went on a 9-1 run with under six minutes left in the first half.

Sari Noga posted a double-double with a game-high 20 points and 16 rebounds to help Parkers Prairie squeak past Southwestern Minnesota Christian 54-50 in the State Class A Quarterfinals Thursday night at Williams Arena.

The Eagles pulled within a point of the Panthers, 51-50, with 38 seconds left in the game on a three-pointer by Megan De Ruyter. The Panthers countered with free-throws from Micaela Noga and Kaylee Dorn to seal the victory.
