Two of the three 2009 team champions return to defend their titles: the Simley Spartans in Class AA and the Apple Valley Eagles in Class AAA. Simley is looking for its third consecutive title, while Apple Valley is seeking its fifth straight title.

In the individual competition, 17 champions return for more gold medals—six in Class AAA, four in Class AA, and seven in Class A.

Girls Basketball: Parkers Prairie shoots down Sebeka 80-64

The fifth-ranked Parkers Prairie Lady Panthers drained nine shots from beyond the arc to shoot down Sebeka 80-64 during the non-conference game Thursday.

University of Minnesota-bound Sari Noga erupted for 20 of her game-high 32 points in the second half. Freshman Madison Dorn knocked down a team-high four three-pointers for 18 points and Kaylee Dorn had 10 for the Lady Panthers.

Girls Basketball: Noga, state-ranked Parkers Prairie sinks Verndale 84-33

Sari Noga drained a game-high 33 points—including five from beyond the arc—as third-ranked Parkers Prairie blew past the host Verndale Lady Pirates 84-33 Thursday.

The Panthers also got 25 points—and four three pointers—from Madison Dorn and Kaylee Dorn added 10.

Parkers Prairie ended up connecting 11 shots from downtown to scorch the Lady Pirates, and carried a comfortable 43-13 lead at halftime.

Jordy Schluttner led Verndale with a team-high nine points while Elizabeth Johnson added 8.

Minnesota head coach Pam Borton announced a recruiting class of four student-athletes; Janelle Cannon, Kionna Kellogg, Sari Noga and Micaella Riche has signed National Letters of Intent to join the Golden Gopher womens basketball team for the 2010-11 season.

Prep Volleyball: State Tournament Preview: Seven teams make first appearances

Shakopee is the only team returning to defend its 2008 title at the 2009 State Girls' Volleyball Tournament. If the Sabers win it would be their third consecutive Class AAA crown.

It is the second year of seeding for the tournament. Coaches of the qualified teams
seeded all of the other teams and then opponents were randomly selected for the top
four seeds.
