All four teams return to defend their 2011 titles: Maranatha Christian Academy of Brooklyn Park in Class A, Braham in Class AA, DeLaSalle of Minneapolis in Class AAA, and Hopkins in Class AAAA.

The Section 8AA girls basketball playoff seeding and bracket was released yesterday.

Wadena-Deer Creek (19-7) locked up the No. 3 seed in the South Subsection and will entertain No. 6 Frazee (13-13) at home starting at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Sebeka, Minn.—Jessica Lillquist poured in a team-high 24 points and Alicia Boe added 19 as Sebeka rallied to defeat Perham 64-61 during Thursday’s regular season finale.

Lillquist also posted 12 rebounds to finish with a double-double for the Lady Trojans, who rallied from a 31-27 halftime deficit against the Yellowjackets (11-14).

Wadena, Minn.—Caitlin Volkmann nailed five three-pointers en route to a team-high 23 points as Wadena-Deer Creek swatted the visiting Perham Yellowjackets 65-50 in Thursday’s non-conference girls basketball action.

Hannah Rutten secured another double-double with her game-high 29 points and team-high 15 boards to help the Class A, ninth-ranked Lady Eagles squeak past Class 2A Perham 68-67 in non-conference action Friday.

Both teams shot 47 percent from the field but New York Mills won the game from the charity stripe as they converted 63 percent (10-for-16) of their free throws compared to 50 percent (7-for-14) for the Lady ‘Jackets.

Elisa Moenkedick and Steph Miller both lit up the scoreboard with 16 points apiece as the visiting Perham Yellowjackets rolled to a 58-41 non-conference victory over host Wadena-Deer Creek Thursday.

Moenkedick gave the Lady Wolverines’ defense fits in the first half as the senior dropped 14 points in the frame to carry the Yellowjackets to a 12-point halftime lead, 29-17.
