Prep Football: Annual Minnesota High School All-Star Football Game is Saturday

The 37th Annual Minnesota High School All-Star Football Game will be played on Saturday June 26 at Husky Stadium on the campus of St. Cloud State University. The kick-off will be at 7:00 PM. This will be the sixth year that St. Cloud State University has hosted the All-Star Football Game.

Prep Baseball: Wolverines gain split to snap 22-game skid with ‘Jackets

The Wadena-Deer Creek baseball team wound up with a split of the Mid-State Conference doubleheader with Perham on Monday, winning the opener 5-2 before losing the nightcap 9-2.

For Wadena-Deer Creek Head Coach Kyle Dykhoff and the Wolverines, they’ll be more than happy to take the split. That’s because they accomplished one of their primary goals this season, and that was to snap a 22-game losing streak against the rival Yellowjackets

Prep Softball: Lady Wolverines swat Perham in conference doubleheader

Leah Dykhoff put up some devastating numbers at the plate for Wadena-Deer Creek as they closed out the regular season with a 5-3 and 11-0 Mid-Conference sweep of Perham on Friday.

The senior went 4-for-8 with a triple and scored four runs before leaving with an injury in the fourth inning of the Lady Wolverines win in the nightcap.

Jessica Wegscheid went 2-for-3 with a run and Sam Holweger was 2-for-3 with an RBI in the opener. The Lady Wolverines used a four-run fifth to offset Perham’s three-run rally in the sixth.

Prep Girls Golf: Lady Wolverines seventh at Wadena-Deer Creek Invitational

Kayla Krause fired an 88 to pace the Wadena-Deer Creek girls golf team to a seventh place showing at the Wadena-Deer Creek Invitational Thursday.

Krause missed the individual medalist honors by two strokes as Matty Tschider of Detroit Lakes captured first place with 82 and Trista Hutchinson was fifth with 86 in leading the Lakers to the team title.

Perham’s Kaylan Huber shot 86 for the runner-up Yellowjackets and Kelly Hagenson fired an 86 to lead Staples-Motley to eighth place.

Prep Girls Golf: Krause leads Lady Wolverines to fourth at Pelican Rapids Invite

Kayla Krause shot a team low 91 for medalist honors as the Wadena-Deer Creek girls golf team finished fourth in the Pelican Rapids Invitational at Wildflower on Tuesday.

The Lady Wolverines shot 420 to edge fifth-place finisher West Central Area by six strokes.

Ella Harrison carded 107, Breanna Speed had 110 and Amanda Kramer turned in 112 to round out the Lady Wolverines’ team score. Paige Hartman (115) and Kelsey Browne (121) provided the kicker scores.

Mens College Basketball: Perham's Ben Bucholz signs letter of intent to play at St. Cloud State

St. Cloud State University men’s basketball coach Kevin Schlagel has announced the signing of Ben Bucholz of Perham High School to a letter of intent. Bucholz will join the Husky basketball program in the fall of 2010.

Bucholz is a 6’8” center that averaged 23.0 points and 13.0 rebounds per game during his senior season at Perham. He was named to the Heart-O-Lakes All-Conference team and Second Team All-State. Bucholz was one of 20 finalists for the Minnesota Mr. Basketball award and played in the High School All-Star game.

Prep Basketball: Area Hoopsters to participate in North Central All-Star Game on Saturday

The 2010 North Central All-Star Basketball Games will be held on Saturday at Cass Lake-Bena High School. Doors open to the public at 3:45 pm. Admission is $10 for Adults and $5 for Students.

A slew of basketball players from the Beyond the Bleachers coverage area have been selected to participate in the event.

Class A Minnesota State Boys Basketball runner-up Sebeka leads the way with five players invited with All-Section and All-State Head Coach Jon Lillquist selected to coach the Team Red Four team.
