Sebeka, Minn.—Paul Funk netted 25 points but Sebeka still fell short against Bertha-Hewitt 69-62 during Tuesday’s Park Region Conference game.

The Trojans were missing a starter for the third straight game as Justin Clark was sidelined due to illness.

Sebeka, Minn.—Paul Funk netted a team-high 19 points and Austin Cannon added 12 for Sebeka during its season-opening 89-53 loss to Browerville in Tuesday’s boys basketball action.

“Browerville showed why they are state ranked,” Sebeka head coach Jon Lillquist said. “Their size was just too much for us to handle.”

Maybe it was karma coming back to bite Sebeka in the tushy.

A week after the third-seeded Lady Trojans basketball team knocked off fifth-ranked and top-seeded Upsala in the girls subsection championship game, the Cardinals turned the tables on the Sebeka boys basketball team.

Four Sebeka players rattled the rims to post double figures as the second-ranked and top-seeded Trojans handled fourth-seeded Bertha-Hewitt 79-50 in the West Subsection 5A semifinals Saturday in Wadena.

Ryan Sharp led all scorers with 22 points as top-seeded Sebeka easily dispatched eighth-seed Pine River-Backus 81-45 during the West Subsection 5A quarterfinals on Thursday.

Sebeka head coach Jon Lillquist wasn’t too overly impressed despite the large margin of the victory.

Two ranked teams collided in Pequot Lakes on Saturday afternoon to wrap up the regular season in a well-played game. The host team used a fast start in the first half to hand the Class A, second-ranked Sebeka Trojans their second loss of the season in the 71-68 non-conference victory.

Sebeka bounced back from their first loss of the season in a big way as the Class A, second-ranked Trojans erupted for 61 points in the first half to throttle Staples-Motley 93-57 in a non-conference game Friday.

The Trojans' workhorses Jason Sharp, John Clark, Cody Pulju and Ryan Sharp combined to score 81 points during the rout.

Cody Pulju led all scorers with 22 points and John Clark posted a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds but it wasn’t enough as Class A, top-ranked Sebeka saw its 23-game win streak end at the hands of Class AA, sixth-ranked Perham 65-60 in a non-conference game Tuesday night.

“It was a great atmosphere for a game and I think the fans got their money’s worth with two teams really battling it out for 36 minutes.” Sebeka head coach Jon Lillquist said.
