Crookston, Minn.—United North Central had three wrestlers claim titles in their respective weight classes as the Warriors went on to win the Rodd Olson Invitational in Crookston on Saturday.

Overall, the Warriors had 13 grapplers place in the top six spots in the 11-team invitational with Tom Tellers (8th grade, 113 lbs), Jake Malone (Jr., 126 lbs.) and Max Pajari (Jr., 138 lbs.) winning individual titles.

Apple Valley, Simley and Jackson County Central successfully defended their team wrestling titles. All three teams were seeded No. 1 in their respective classes. The three schools, each with strong winning traditions, now share a collective 32 state titles in the past 36 years — Apple Valley with 19, Simley with eight, and Jackson County Central with 5.

All three of the 2010 team champions return to defend their respective titles: the Jackson County Central Huskies in Class A; the Simley Spartans in Class AA; and the Apple Valley Eagles in Class AAA. Jackson County Central is looking for its second consecutive title, Simley of Inver Grove Heights is looking for its fourth consecutive title, and Apple Valley is seeking its sixth consecutive title.

Coaches have completed the seeding process for the top four seeds of the 2011 State Wrestling Tournament and the pairings have been drawn for their opponents in the team competition, the Minnesota High School League (MSHSL) announced this afternoon.

Defending state champions Jackson County Central (Class A), Simley (Class AA) and Apple Valley (Class AAA) all return and received the number one seeds in their respective classes.

After falling behind early, United North Central won eight of the last 10 matches to top the visiting Pequot Lakes/Pine River-Backus Road Crew 45-33 in a dual meet on Tuesday night.

The Road Crew won the first three matches to take the early 15-0 lead by getting pins from Tristan Rubner (103) and Anthony Phillipson (112) while Jace Loge (119) edged the Warriors’ Brody Benson 8-6 in the overtime period.
