Emily Miron (12) was one of five Wadena-Deer Creek players to be named to the 2011 Mid-State All-Conference Team recently. The junior led the team with 254 blocks and slammed 402 kills during the season.

Hawley had six players receiving postseason accolades when the 23 member Heart O’ Lakes All-Classic Conference Team was announced today.

The Nuggets (10-1) went 6-0 in conference games and finished with the No. 4 ranking in the final Class 2A coaches poll. However, conference rival Warroad stunned the Nuggets 14-7 in the Section 8AA Championship game at the Fargodome.

Making the all-conference roster for Hawley were Riley Burns (Sr., RB/LB), Cassidy Violet (Sr., OL/DL), Keifer Hinrichs (Sr., QB/FS), Brady Pekas (Sr., RB/CB), Josh Johnson (Jr., TE/LB).

Two team champions return this Saturday, Nov. 5, when the Minnesota State High School League’s 2011 State Girls’ and Boys’ Cross Country Running Meet is conducted at St. Olaf College in Northfield. The Perham boys and Adrian girls are both in the hunt for their second consecutive titles in Class A.

Brittney Noon scored a volleyball double-double with 15 kills and 10 digs and Emily Miron notched 11 kills for Wadena-Deer Creek during Monday’s Mid-State Conference victory over Staples-Motley.

The Class AA, eighth-ranked Lady Wolverines breezed past the Cardinals 25-9, 25-15 and 25-10.

The Wadena-Deer Creek girls tennis team dropped a pair of matches in Thursday’s triangular in Staples-Motley. The Lady Wolverines were defeated by the host Cardinals 6-1 in the opener and then fell 5-2 to Crosby-Ironton.

Tori Kempenich slammed a team-high nine kills and Ellie Rutten filled the stat book with eight kills, one dig, two blocks, two ace serves, three blocks and three set assists as New York Mills swept Staples-Motley 3-0 during non-conference action Tuesday night.
