All four teams return to defend their 2011 titles: Maranatha Christian Academy of Brooklyn Park in Class A, Braham in Class AA, DeLaSalle of Minneapolis in Class AAA, and Hopkins in Class AAAA.

Staples, Minn.—Kelly Pearson scored a game-high 26 points to help Class 2A, eighth-ranked Staples-Motley survive an upset bid by Mid-State Conference rival Wadena-Deer Creek during Friday’s marquee matchup.

The junior cemented the 63-54 victory by converting eight of 10 free-throws during the final 47 seconds to secure the Cardinals’ two-game sweep of the Lady Wolverines.

Kelsi Crawford notched a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds to help lead Wadena-Deer Creek girls basketball team to their fifth straight victory in the 70-59 Mid-State Conference win over Staples-Motley Friday night.

The Lady Wolverines carried a three-point lead, 21-18, at the break as both teams struggled to get anything going during the defensive battle in the first half.
