Wadena, Minn.—Emily Miron led all scorers with 17 points as Wadena-Deer Creek broke open a tight defensive battle with 32 points in the second half during Tuesday’s 40-21 Mid-State Conference win over Detroit Lakes.

Both teams struggled to get going in the first half. The Lady Wolverines went into the locker room leading by single point, 8-7.

Hallock, Minn.—Wadena-Deer Creek struck first with two Mitchell Swanson goals, but Kittson Central used a five-goal second period to hand the Wolverines a 8-3 loss Saturday.

Kyle Petersburg and Dalton Klegstad scored twice for the Bearcats while Billy Thorsteinson had a goal and three playmakers during the victory.

Long Prairie, Minn.—Julia Osowski scored four goals and Bridget Walter netted a hat trick as Princeton unleashed 46 shots at the Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Wadena-Deer Creek net during Saturday’s 10-1 rout over the Blue Devils.

The Blue Devils only goal came with 35 seconds left in the first period on Ashley Helseth’s third goal of the season with Halley Maas assisting.

Staples, Minn.—Kelly Pearson scored a game-high 26 points to help Class 2A, eighth-ranked Staples-Motley survive an upset bid by Mid-State Conference rival Wadena-Deer Creek during Friday’s marquee matchup.

The junior cemented the 63-54 victory by converting eight of 10 free-throws during the final 47 seconds to secure the Cardinals’ two-game sweep of the Lady Wolverines.
