Prep Football: Lanners, Royalton rumble past New York Mills, 45-7
Royalton rode behind workhorse running back Zach Lanners en route to a 45-7 non-conference, season-opening victory over the host New York Mills Eagles Thursday night.
The senior racked up 127 yards rushing on 12 carries and scored four touchdowns as the Royals built up a 32-0 halftime lead.
Brian Schlichting had a pair of rushing touchdowns in the second half for Royalton, scoring on a 63-yard jaunt and three-yard run.

Prep Volleyball: Menahga makes it two by sweeping Eagle Valley, 3-0
The Menahga volleyball team picked up their second win of the young season by sweeping the visiting Eagle Valley Rebels in three games in Menahga Tuesday.
The Lady Braves won by scores of 25-22, 27-25 and 25-18.
Senior Amelia Pho had an all-around game for Menahga, registering four kills, 11 digs and one service ace while junior setter Delanie Weyer paced the Lady Braves’ offensive attack with a team-high 24 set assists to go with her 15 defensive digs.
Senior Lindsey White had a team-high five kills and junior Beth Tormanen had 17 digs.
Prep Volleyball: Parkers Prairie claws out season-opening conference win over Verndale, 3-1.
Parkers Prairie scratched out a season-opening, Park Region Conference win over Verndale on Tuesday.
The Lady Pirates put up a good fight in the first game, losing 25-23. They bounced back to claim the second game, 25-19 but ran out of gas as the Panthers took the next two for the match win, 3-1.
Lady Pirate senior outside hitter Ashley Richter slammed a team-high three kills and senior setter Elizabeth Johnson had five set assists to go with her one block assist in the loss.
Verndale (0-1) travels to Eagle Valley at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
Prep Volleyball: New York Mills stung by Frazee in opener, 3-0
New York Mills was stung by the visiting Frazee Hornets in the season-opening, non-conference volleyball match Tuesday.
Frazee swept the Lady Eagles in three games by scores of 25-10, 25-16 and 25-13.
The Lady Eagles were led by a trio of sophomores in the loss. Libero Brooke Kupfer had a team-high 17 digs, setter Lexie Rankka came up with 12 digs and four set assists and Amy Nebosis collected two kills, an ace serve and five digs.
Prep Girls Tennis: Pierz outlasts Lady Wolverines, 6-1
The Wadena-Deer girls tennis team dropped a dual meet on Wednesday to the visiting Pierz Pioneers, 6-1.
Paige Hartman was the lone Wadena-Deer Creek victor at third singles, as she defeated the Pioneers Emily Seelen in straight sets by identical 6-3 scores.

Pierz defeated Wadena-Deer Creek 6-1
Prep Tennis: Lady Eagles edged by West Central, 4-3
New York Mills won three of four singles matches in straight sets but were swept in the doubles as West Central Area defeated the Lady Eagles 4-3 on Friday.
The Lady Eagles were led by seniors Missy Hendrickx, Lauren Bach and Jen Maki, who scored victories in their singles matches. Hendrickx defeated the Lady Knights’ Nicole Anderson 6-3, 6-0; Bach defeated Jasmyn Sutton 6-2, 6-3 and Maki edged Sarah Frisch 7-5, 6-2.
