The 2011-12 boys' basketball season is under way with the first games of the season played within the last week. The girls have been playing for a week longer. The 2012 state tournaments are a little more than three months away.

Menahga, Minn.—Tarah Cleveland lit up Park Region Conference foe Verndale for 29 points as the Lady Braves improved to 3-0 during Tuesday’s 66-41 victory in Menahga.

The 5-foot-3 junior shooting guard was 10 for 17 from the floor and 3 for 8 from the three-point range. She also dished out a team-high six assists and had five steals.
Menahga shot 36 percent (27 for 75) from the floor

Wadena-Deer Creek's Sam Waln strains while tangling with Staples-Motley's Alex Erpelding during the 113lb quater-finals Saturday. Waln scored a fall moments later and went on to finish as runner-up in his weight class.

Coleraine, Minn.—Mitchell Swanson and Bridger Pettit tallied goals for Wadena-Deer Creek during Friday’s 10-2 nonconference loss to Greenway at the Hodgins-Berardo Arena in Coleraine.

The Raiders got off to a fast start with back-to-back goals from Darrin Estey and Josh Gross within the first minute and a half of the game and the Wolverines were unable to recover.

Litchfield, Minn.—Mitchell Swanson notched a hat trick for Wadena-Deer Creek during its season-opening 9-3 loss to Litchfield-Dassel-Cokato on Tuesday.

Both the Sebeka and Henning volleyball teams landed four players on the recently announced Park Region All-Conference Team.

Sebeka, which won the outright Park Region Conference crown with a 6-0 mark, was led by Jessica Lillquist. The senior middle hitter was voted the Park Region Conference Most Valuable Player.
