Menahga, Minn.—Tarah Cleveland lit up Park Region Conference foe Verndale for 29 points as the Lady Braves improved to 3-0 during Tuesday’s 66-41 victory in Menahga.

The 5-foot-3 junior shooting guard was 10 for 17 from the floor and 3 for 8 from the three-point range. She also dished out a team-high six assists and had five steals.
Menahga shot 36 percent (27 for 75) from the floor

As expected, both Barnum and Upsala received the top seeds when the Section 5A girls basketball bracket was announced this morning.

Barnum (22-3), ranked No. 2 in the latest girls basketball polls, was the top seed in the East Sub-section while Upsala (22-0), ranked fifth, took the top spot in the West Sub-section. Both teams received byes and will await the winners of the pigtail games on Thursday, March 3.

Upsala will face the winner between No. 8 Menahga and No. 9 Verndale, who are scheduled to play at 7 p.m. Monday in Menahga.

Alicia Boe posted a double-double with a team-high 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead Sebeka in a 69-27 Park Region Conference victory over Verndale on Thursday night.

Boe also dished out a team-high seven assists as three Lady Trojans finished in double figures during the rout.

Jessica Lillquist posted a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds to help host Sebeka run away with the 58-33 Park Region Conference victory over Verndale Friday night.

The junior also posted four assists, four steals and two blocked shots as the Lady Trojans limited Verndale to 31 percent shooting from the floor.

Verndale shot 26 percent (16-for-62) from the floor but still managed to edge the visiting Swanville Bulldogs 44-40 during the season opening, non-conference game Friday night.

The Lady Pirates outscored the Bulldogs 21-16 in the second half after trailing by a point (24-23) at the break. Verndale made 66 percent (8-for-12) of their free-throw shots to pull out the victory.

Tarah Cleveland dropped a game-high 24 points and Lindsey White scored 14 to help the host Menahga Lady Braves overcome a 26-21 halftime deficit to defeat Verndale 54-45 in Park Region Conference play Friday.

The Lady Braves used a flurry of second-half free-throws to sink the Lady Pirates. They converted 23-of-44 (52 percent) from the charity stripe. Menahga finished with 43 percent (14-for-32) from the floor on the evening.

Elizabeth Johnson led all Verndale scorers with 13 points in the loss.

Menahga (6-16) travels to Browerville at 7:30 p.m. Monday (today)

Jessica Lillquist scored a game-high 15 points and Taylor Schwartz added 12—including a perfect six-for-six from the free-throw line—to help spark the host Sebeka Lady Trojans past Verndale 66-34 in Park Region Conference action Friday.

The Lady Trojans cruised to a 48-16 halftime lead en route to improving to 17-3 on the season.

Sari Noga drained a game-high 33 points—including five from beyond the arc—as third-ranked Parkers Prairie blew past the host Verndale Lady Pirates 84-33 Thursday.

The Panthers also got 25 points—and four three pointers—from Madison Dorn and Kaylee Dorn added 10.

Parkers Prairie ended up connecting 11 shots from downtown to scorch the Lady Pirates, and carried a comfortable 43-13 lead at halftime.

Jordy Schluttner led Verndale with a team-high nine points while Elizabeth Johnson added 8.
