The Eagles of New Life Academy of Woodbury in Class A and the Pirates of Park Center, Brooklyn Park, in Class AA return to defend their respective titles. A new champion will emerge in Class AAA because Burnsville, which won in 2010, failed to qualify for this year’s tournament.

Kirsten Korfe had a double and four RBIs and Lizzy Yungbauer doubled twice and drove in a run, but Verndale still came up short against Pillager during the 7-5 Park Region Conference loss to the Huskies on Tuesday.

Both teams traded the equal number of runs in the third and fourth innings until the Huskies broke the 5-all tie with a pair of unanswered runs in the top of the seventh.

Pine River-Backus exploded for 11 runs in the second inning as the Tigers went on to defeat Verndale 17-10 in a non-conference game Friday.

Tatum Sheley highlighted the Tigers’ second inning outburst with a three-run home run and numerous Verndale errors in the frame led to three additional Tiger scores.

Bertha-Hewitt capitalized on nine Verndale errors in the first game and hammered out 10 hits in the second to capture the Park Region Conference sweep over the Lady Pirates on Tuesday.

The Bears erased a 2-0 deficit with two runs in the fifth and scored three runs in the top of the seventh behind a slew of Lady Pirate miscues to escape with the 5-4 victory in the first game.

Solid pitching from Lindsey White and the torrid hitting of Amelia Pho allowed Menahga to post a 4-1 Park Region Conference victory over the host Verndale Lady Pirates on Friday.

White struck out 12 Verndale batters during the three-hit, seven-inning performance inside the circle. Pho slugged three doubles and drove in three runs to pace the Lady Braves at the plate.

Ashby broke open the scoreless game by erupting for seven runs in the fifth inning and the Arrows ended up cruising to a six-inning 11-0 shutout victory over Verndale on Thursday.

Kirsten Korfe managed the lone hit for the Lady Pirates, who dropped their eighth straight.

Arrow pitcher Haley Ness struck out 11 batters and went 2-for-2 with two runs at the plate during the victory.
