The Wadena-Deer Creek boys basketball game tonight with Detroit Lakes has been moved up due to winter storm alerts effective until Wednesday night. The Wolverines-Lakers varsity game is now scheduled to tip off at 5 p.m. There will be NO junior varsity game.

Wadena, Minn.—Austen Schwartz drained six three-pointers en route to a game-high 24 points, but it wasn’t enough to help Menahga get past Wadena-Deer Creek during Thursday’s 66-64 non-conference loss.

Both teams combined to shoot the lights out by converting 13 three-pointers in the contest.

Wadena, Minn.—Ben Birch registered a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds as Wadena-Deer Creek lost 83-55 to Hawley during Monday’s non-conference game in Wadena.

“We actually didn’t play that bad, Hawley is just that good.” Wadena-Deer Creek head coach Tom VanErp said. “Our kids never quit, they kept going right at the Nuggets right to the end.”

Pierz, Minn.—Preston Weber netted a game-high 23 points and Caleb Janson registered a double-double with 22 points and 21 rebounds to help the Pierz Pioneers hammer Wadena-Deer Creek 93-38 in Tuesday’s non-conference boys basketball game.

Sauk Centre, Minn.—Ben Birch netted a team-high 19 points and 12 rebounds and Evan VanErp scored 18, but it wasn’t enough to offset the 28-point difference as Wadena-Deer Creek dropped its season opener 85-57 to the host Sauk Centre Mainstreeters on Friday night.

Jordan Reed scored 21 points for the Wolverines and became the 10th boys basketball player to reach 1,000 points. The senior ended up capping his career with 1,003 points as Wadena-Deer Creek was eliminated from the playoffs Thursday night.

Five Detroit Lakes players scored in double figures as the Lakers routed Wadena-Deer Creek 92-53 in a Mid-State Conference game Tuesday night.

“We never really got going in this game,” Wadena-Deer Creek head coach Tom VanErp said. “We fell behind 11-4 early and just couldn’t get things going.”

A day after taking top-ranked Sebeka down the wire, Wadena-Deer Creek couldn’t muster another second half comeback as Hawley clipped the Wolverines 65-49 in a non-conference game Tuesday.

The Wolverines stayed within the Nuggets in the first half as Ryan Redfield dropped 10 points, including a pair of three-pointers and Jordan Reed posted six of his team-high 18 points during the span.
