The Wadena-Deer girls tennis team dropped a dual meet on Wednesday to the visiting Pierz Pioneers, 6-1.

Paige Hartman was the lone Wadena-Deer Creek victor at third singles, as she defeated the Pioneers Emily Seelen in straight sets by identical 6-3 scores.

The Minnesota volleyball team (3-0) defeated Marquette (2-1) in three sets by scores of 27-25, 25-17, 25-22 to win the Gopher Invite Championship.

Lauren Bach won her first two matches via super tiebreaker but dropped her championship match to finish runner-up at second singles as the Lady Eagles placed fifth in the Hi-way 10 Tournament in Brainerd Wednesday

Bach opened the tournament by squeaking past Jessica Zent of Stewartville 7-5, 3-6 (12-10). She then edged Katie Anderson of Detroit Lakes 6-4, 4-6 (10-6) before falling to Andrea Koskiniemi of Staples-Motley 2-6, 0-6.

Wadena-Deer Creek will be hosting a two-day Junior Olympic Volleyball on Saturday and Sunday in the elementary and high school gymnasiums.

Games start at 9 a.m. on both days and the cost for admission will be $3 for adults and $1 for students.

The Wadena-Deer Creek 17U volleyball team placed third out of 32 teams during Presidents' Day Festival February 13-14.

The Heart O’ Lakes All-Conference teams and individual awards were announced on Wednesday.
 
Staples-Motley led the Classic Conference with six players selected to the all-conference team, with Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton adding five to the honor roll.

The Wadena-Deer Creek volleyball team had two players that were named All-Tournament after the Lady Wolverines won the State Class AA consolation championship on Saturday at the Xcel Energy Center.
 
Kelsi Crawford and Courtney Volkmann, both juniors, were chosen for the nine-person team presented by Wells-Fargo and the Minnesota State High School League.
