Prep Football: Barnesville dominates All-Prairie North Conference Team

Barnesville had nine players receiving postseason accolades when the 21 member All-Prairie North Conference Team was recently announced.

The Trojans (9-1) went 5-0 in conference games and finished with the No. 3 ranking in the final Class 2A coaches poll. Barnesville was upset by Warroad 21-20 in the Section 8AA semifinal playoff game.

Not only did Barnesville dominate with the number of players named to the all-conference squad, they also snagged four of the Prairie North Conference’s five top offensive and defensive awards.

Prep Football: Wadena-Deer Creek lands two on All-Section 6AA Football Team

Wadena-Deer Creek work horse running back Logan Meyer was one of the two Wolverines to landed on the 2011 All-Section 6AA Team announced this afternoon. The senior rushed for over 1,000 yards and scored 10 touchdowns for the Wolverines, who went 0-9 this season.

Seniors Logan Meyer and Jacob Ludovissie raked in three top honors this prep football season.

Ky Zimmel returned a kickoff 85 yards for the game-winning touchdown as Osakis escaped an upset bid by winless Wadena-Deer Creek during Friday’s 34-27 Prairie North Conference game in Wadena.

Osakis used its potent ground game to build an early 20-0 before the Wolverines got their offense going with two touchdowns in the second quarter to trim the Silverstreaks’ lead to 20-13 at the break.

Prep Football: Wolverines fail to ‘Silence the Thunder’ in 20-8 loss (UPDATED)

Ben Fieler rushed for 141 yards and two touchdowns as Long Prairie-Grey Eagle spoiled Wadena-Deer Creek’s homecoming with the 20-8 Prairie North Conference win Friday night.

The game featured a strong defensive effort on both sides of the ball, but the difference may have been the turnover battle. Both teams combined for eight turnovers with the Thunder capitalizing twice on the Wolverines’ miscues to pull out the victory.

Prep Football: Barnesville sets the tone in 61-6 rout of Wolverines (UPDATED)

Class AA, fourth-ranked Barnesville set the tone early and often as the Trojans scored five touchdowns in the first quarter of the 61- 6 rout of Wadena-Deer Creek in a Prairie North Conference game Friday night.

Barnesville piled up nearly 400 yards of total offense and got two rushing scores from Colby Braton along with a pair of Robbie Strand touchdown passes during the Trojans’ first quarter fireworks.

Prep Football: Charest, No. 6 Ottertail Central chew up Wadena-Deer Creek 35-6

Marty Charest almost single-handily delivered the victory to the Class A, sixth-ranked Ottertail Central Bulldogs during Friday’s 35-6 Prairie Conference win over visiting Wadena-Deer Creek.

The senior quarterback destroyed the Wolverine defense with three touchdown runs and threw for another as the Bulldogs racked up over 300 yards of total offense in the conference win.
