All four teams return to defend their 2011 titles: Maranatha Christian Academy of Brooklyn Park in Class A, Braham in Class AA, DeLaSalle of Minneapolis in Class AAA, and Hopkins in Class AAAA.

The Section 8AA girls basketball playoff seeding and bracket was released yesterday.

Wadena-Deer Creek (19-7) locked up the No. 3 seed in the South Subsection and will entertain No. 6 Frazee (13-13) at home starting at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Arei Stokes (00) led all scorers with 31 points as Bertha-Hewitt held off a late Wadena-Deer Creek rally on Tuesday night. The junior also grabbed 16 rebounds in the Bears 59-58 victory.

Wadena, Minn.—Caitlin Volkmann drained five three-pointers en route to a game-high 21 points as Wadena-Deer Creek mauled a young Browerville team during Tuesday’s 67-40 non-conference victory.

Emily Miron nearly registered a triple-double with 14 points, 14 rebounds and eight blocks for the Lady Wolverines, which saw eight players contribute to the scoring column.
