All three of the 2011 team champions return to defend their respective titles: the Jackson County Central Huskies in Class A; the Simley Spartans in Class AA; and the Apple Valley Eagles in Class AAA. Jackson County Central, which tied Frazee for top honors in 2011, is looking for its third consecutive title. Simley of Inver Grove Heights is looking for its fifth consecutive title and Apple Valley is seeking its seventh consecutive title.

Prep Wrestling: Wadena-Deer Creek places fifth in Park Rapids Invitational

Park Rapids, Minn.—Wadena-Deer Creek won six of the seven matches contested to win the fifth-place match 51-24 over Deer River at the Park Rapids Invitational on Saturday.

The Wolverines were led by their state-ranked wrestlers Mitch Steffens (No. 5 at 113 lbs.) and Tony Ruerink (No. 5 at 220 lbs), as well as Sam Waln, who won all three of their matches in the invite.

MSHSL: State Wrestling Tournament Wrap-up and Summaries: Three teams repeat, McCauley wins fifth title

Apple Valley, Simley and Jackson County Central successfully defended their team wrestling titles. All three teams were seeded No. 1 in their respective classes. The three schools, each with strong winning traditions, now share a collective 32 state titles in the past 36 years — Apple Valley with 19, Simley with eight, and Jackson County Central with 5.

For the second year in a row, the Wolverine wrestling team advanced three individuals to the state tournament next weekend at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. Seniors Jared Wegscheid (140) and Dylan Anderson (HWT), as well as sophomore Tony Reurink (215) will all make their first trip to the Big Dance.

Coaches have completed the seeding process for the top four seeds of the 2011 State Wrestling Tournament and the pairings have been drawn for their opponents in the team competition, the Minnesota High School League (MSHSL) announced this afternoon.

Defending state champions Jackson County Central (Class A), Simley (Class AA) and Apple Valley (Class AAA) all return and received the number one seeds in their respective classes.
